Greetings, I have just joined the site having recently bought a Princess 32.
I am having a problem with the boats cooling system and I am hoping that the experience here may give me a lead.

The engine (Volvo penta TMD40) is overheating. Having spent the weekend taking the system apart I have identified the problem but not the cause.

The rubber impeller in the seawater pump is breaking up. I replaced it and the new one has started to break up within a week.

Judging by the fact that there were a couple of spare impellers in the side box i am assuming that this is not a new problem with this boat. The problem is that I do not understand why.

Is this a common problem? if so, has anyone found a solution? at £30 plus per impeller and one impeller a week penury is beckoning.
I would be grateful for any ideas or advice.

The obvious problem is a lack of water going to the sea water pump so check that the sea cock is open and that the raw water filter is not blocked.

You may wish to consider putting an skin fitting in and strainer just for engine cooling nearer the raw water pump instead of through the outdrive this worked for someone with the same problem
